My reflections on the Day of Atonement.

By John Penman

A longing came into my heart.
Like gentle breeze upon my soul.
I prayed that You would speak to me.
Your power to make me whole.

And then revolting in my soul
Condemning words spoke from my lips
Depart thou hence for I’m unclean
And grieved You're pushed away.

Then in my emptiness I cried
There must be others worse than me
I’ll point my judgement upon them
Perhaps I’ll then feel worthy

Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That loves a wretch like me
I thought I saw but I was blind
Help me not to run from Thee
